Big Changes in 2023 as Jeff Kyes Retires

After much consideration, Jeff Kyes retired effective January 2023.  Jeff took over his father's engineering firm, Kyes Engineering, straight out of school in 1996. In 1998, the merger of Kyes Engineering and Bryan Surveying became KEBS, Inc.  He started as Vice President and took over as President of the company in 2017 until his retirement. 

Throughout his career, Jeff saw ups and downs in the economy and oversaw many developments in the mid-Michigan area. Every step of the way, he showed great leadership and was able to pass down a wealth of knowledge to those he worked with. Upon his departure, Erick Friestrom and Dane Pascoe stepped into the roles of CEO and President, respectively. Allen J. Patrick and Greg Petru, after working closely with Jeff since 1998, took over roles as Vice Presidents to head up the Engineering Department. We look forward to seeing how they all leave their mark in their continuing leadership in the future.

Larry Bryan Retires after 40 Years

Larry Bryan started Bryan Land Surveying in early 1979 with only one employee. Steady growth in the mortgage market and land surveying allowed Larry to add personnel and, consequently, offer more diverse services to his clients. KEBS continues to provide clients, from the U.P. to Southern Michigan, with exceptional professional surveying services based on his years of experience. Larry retired in March 2017 after a career of 40 years doing what he loved.

In 2017, upon Larry's retirement, the management of the surveying side of things was divided between two capable individuals. Dane Pascoe started working for KEBS in 2003, upon his graduation from Ferris State University. Through the years, he progressed from Crew Chief to Project Manager, Department Manager, Vice President, and, in 2023, took the role as President. Erick Friestrom began his work experience in 1999 with the Michigan Department of Transportation in Grand Rapids and then in the U.P. In 2002, he graduated from Ferris State University and spent time as Lead Surveyor with a local company before joining the KEBS family in 2011. In his time here, he has been a Crew Chief in both Construction and Surveying, then moved to Project Manager, Vice President, and, in 2023, became Chief Executive Officer and Survey Department Head.
