Erick Friestrom, PS - Chief Executive Officer

Erick grew up in the Upper Peninsula and graduated with a Surveying Engineering degree from Ferris State University in 2002. He has been at KEBS since 2013, after working 11 years with a different firm. He was hired as a Crew Chief, progressed to Project Manager, Vice President, and then in 2023, became CEO. There is no doubt Erick is our resident workaholic, sometimes arriving in the early morning hours to work. Erick stays busy spending time with his three children who range in age from high school to recent college graduate. 

Dane Pascoe, PS - President

Dane started working with KEBS in 2003 upon his graduation from Ferris State University. Through the years, he has had many roles. Starting as a crew chief out in the field he gained experience to advance to Project Manager, Vice-President, and became President of the company in 2023. He oversees the Condo and Subdivision Departments and Lot Surveys. He works hard to maintain the family values the company is founded on.

A.J. Patrick, PE - Vice President

A.J. is Vice President and Project Engineer working with KEBS since 1998. He graduated from Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in 1997 and spent 5 years heading the engineering department in our former Charlotte office after obtaining his professional engineering license in 2002. In 2023, he became Vice President and head of the engineering department. He has completed projects throughout lower Michigan, specializing in site grading and drainage. After 25 years, it is interesting to think of all the projects he has designed over the years!

A.J. Patrick, PE - Vice President

A.J. is Vice President and Project Engineer working with KEBS since 1998. He graduated from Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in 1997 and spent 5 years heading the engineering department in our former Charlotte office after obtaining his professional engineering license in 2002. In 2023, he became Vice President and head of the engineering department. He has completed projects throughout lower Michigan, specializing in site grading and drainage. After 25 years, it is interesting to think of all the projects he has designed over the years!

Greg Petru, PE - Vice President

Greg started working with KEBS in 1998, shortly after his graduation from Michigan State University. His first role in the company was in the Survey Department, doing construction layout. He moved into the office as a project engineer a year later, and became a professional engineer in 2003. In 2023, he became Vice President, taking on even more responsibility. In his spare time, he has coached youth baseball for many years and enjoys playing golf in the summer.

Greg started working with KEBS in 1998, shortly after his graduation from Michigan State University. His first role in the company was in the Survey Department, doing construction layout. He moved into the office as a project engineer a year later, and became a professional engineer in 2003. In 2023, he became Vice President, taking on even more responsibility. In his spare time, he has coached youth baseball for many years and enjoys playing golf in the summer.

Scott Watson - Construction Manager

Scott started with KEBS in 2014 as a Construction Survey Crew Chief, and after many years of experience, when we needed a Construction Manager, Scott was the perfect person for the job. Since taking that position, he has thrived, and KEBS is truly grateful for his great management skills. After high school, Scott served in the Marines for 4 years and then used that experience to begin his career surveying before joining our team. Scott and his lovely wife have 3 boys, which keeps them busy, and in his spare time, he enjoys fishing.

Scott Watson - Construction Manager

Scott started with KEBS in 2014 as a Construction Survey Crew Chief, and after many years of experience, when we needed a Construction Manager, Scott was the perfect person for the job. Since taking that position, he has thrived, and KEBS is truly grateful for his great management skills. She and her husband, Mark, live in Leslie where they enjoy small-town living. Her true passion is teaching in the children’s ministry at church. She also loves being outside, either working in her flower garden or going on long bike rides.

Selena House - CAD Technician

We would truly be lost without Selena in the Construction Department, and just in general. Since hiring in as an AutoCAD technician in 2003, she is the go-to person for so many things. She is always a bright smile around the office. If you know someone that is ALWAYS busy, that’s Selena. In her off time, when she doesn’t take work home with her, she bakes, quilts, and helps with charitable events that are dear to her heart. She has two sons, but the number she counts as her children is much higher.

We would truly be lost without Selena in the Construction Department, and just in general. Since hiring in as an AutoCAD technician in 2003, she is the go-to person for so many things. Keith Baker - Project Manager

Keith started with KEBS before it was even KEBS back in 1996. He has seen a lot of changes since teaming up with Bryan Land Surveying and starting his career as an AutoCAD technician. Juggling condo documents, flood surveys, and lot surveys, among other projects, he is a wealth of information. The past few years have included a lot more golf and that, along with 5 grandchildren so far, keeps his time outside of work just as busy!

Keith started with KEBS before it was even KEBS back in 1996. He has seen a lot of changes since teaming up with Bryan Land Surveying and starting his career as an AutoCAD technician. Audrey Noeker - CAD Technician

Audrey has been with the KEBS team since the spring of 2021. She drafts for the survey department, including Boundary, Topo, ALTA, Mortgage Reports, and Lot surveys.  She also occasionally helps draft Plot Plans and making edits on engineering drawings.

Sean Foley - CAD Technician

Sean joined the KEBS team in March 2013 as an AutoCAD technician. Sean checks the drawings upon being drafted for edits. He also does pre-comps for the field and occasionally drafts Boundary, Topo, ALTA, and Lot surveys. He also keeps busy at home with his wife and 4 children.

Having been here since April 2003, and having 20+ plus years of experience, he is our most senior Crew Chief. With all that experience, he is generally the one to train any new hires. Nate is a surveying crew chief conducting field work for ALTA, Topo, Lot, Mortgage, and Boundary Surveys, so he will very likely be the one to show up at your property for a survey. Chris Miller - Construction Crew Chief

Chris moved to Michigan from Kansas in February of 2015, and we are so happy he joined our crew! Whether it is staking a big commercial project or a new home build, we would be lost without him. When he is not busy working, his daughter keeps him running and you can see him cheering her on in many sporting activities. A very proud dad!!

Heidi Smith - Crew Chief

The two combined could cover more area and combine resources and office staff. Between work and his outside interests, he is always busy doing something!

Matt Groat - Marshall Office Crew Chief

Matt is our Survey Crew Chief at the Marshall location. He began surveying in 1990 and has worked at KEBS since 2002, alongside his brother Mike.  Matt does all the field work for ALTA, Topo, Boundary, Lot, Flood, and Mortgage surveys, along with construction staking.  Matt enjoys high powered rifles and long-range shooting in his spare time.

Matt is our Survey Crew Chief at the Marshall location. He began surveying in 1990 and has worked at KEBS since 2002, alongside his brother Mike.  Matt does all the field work for ALTA, Topo, Boundary, Lot, Flood, and Mortgage surveys, along with construction staking.  Matt enjoys high powered rifles and long-range shooting in his spare time.   

Krystal Mehrman - Administrative Assistant/Receptionist

Krystal was born and raised in the Upper Peninsula. She is the proud mom of two. In her free time, Krystal enjoys horseback riding, attending sporting events and concerts, and traveling to warm destinations. Krystal has extensive administrative experience in several fields and is excited to further her career with this company

Friendly & Experienced – Ready to Work for Your Project

The disciplines of Land Surveying and Civil Engineering are closely related both in practice and philosophy. To take advantage of this close relationship, Bryan Land Surveying and Kyes Engineering merged to become KEBS, Inc. in 1998. From the start, the two companies shared the common goal of providing the highest quality engineering and surveying service to the Mid-Michigan community, and continues to do that to this day.

Larry Bryan, PS started Bryan Land Surveying in early 1979, with just one employee. Steady growth in the mortgage market and land surveying allowed Larry to add personnel and consequently offer more diverse services to his clients. Today, KEBS continues to provide clients all over Michigan with exceptional professional surveying services based on his years of experience. Larry retired in March of 2017 after doing the work he loved for over 40 years.

Upon Larry's retirement in 2017, the management of the Survey Department was divided between two capable individuals, Dane Pascoe and Erick Friestrom. Dane started working for KEBS in 2003, upon his graduation from Ferris State University. Through the years, he progressed from Crew Chief to Project Manager to Department Manager to Vice President, and in 2023, became President.

Erick began his work experience in 1999 with the Michigan Department of Transportation in Grand Rapids and then in the U.P. In 2002, he graduated from Ferris State University and spent time as Lead Surveyor with a local company before joining the KEBS family in 2011. In his time here, he has been a Crew Chief in both Construction and Surveying, then moved to Project Manager, Vice President, and in 2023, became Chief Executive Officer and Survey Department Head.

Kyes Engineering and Associates, Inc. was formed by Walt Kyes, PE in 1972. For more than two decades, Kyes Engineering grew to become one of mid-Michigan’s premier engineering consulting firms, and was responsible for designing many prominent projects across the state. Although focused on private development, Kyes Engineering was also instrumental in the design of diverse projects for various cities, townships, drain commissions, and road commissions.

In 1996 Walt’s son, Jeff Kyes, PE, took over leadership at Kyes Engineering with the mandate to continue the outstanding level of service expected of the firm. When the KEBS, Inc. merger took place, Jeff became Vice President and head of Engineering. In 2017, upon Larry's retirement, Jeff took the reins as President until his retirement in 2023.

Following Jeff’s retirement, two of KEBS Professional Engineers took over the management of the Engineering Department. Allen J. Patrick graduated from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and hired into KEBS in March 1998. Greg Petru graduated from Michigan State University and hired into KEBS also in March 1998. Both worked closely with Jeff through the years, and continue to promote the same values, integrity, and commitment to their clients that have been the cornerstone of KEBS from the start, making this a seamless transition. We are fortunate to have their combined experience of 50+ years moving forward.

Where We Are Today

Since 1998, KEBS, Inc. has acquired several surveying firms, and their records give us a broader, even more comprehensive range of data that allows for even greater efficiency and accuracy. In January 2002, KEBS, Inc. acquired Groat Land Surveying, P.C. in Marshall, Michigan. This acquisition allowed us to expand into the south-central Michigan market, where we serve clients in several surrounding counties.

Today, KEBS, Inc. is staffed with three licensed Professional Surveyors and two licensed Professional Engineers, supported by personnel certified by national examination boards. Our staff strives each day to provide high-quality services while maintaining a partnership with each client resulting in projects that consistently meet and exceed expectations. Our clients continue to be our driving force and we look forward to new relationships, new challenges, and a long future serving Michigan.
