Wetland and Ecological

KEBS offers a variety of Wetland and Ecological options that can be tailored to fit within your budget and to your needs. Available options include:

·   Preliminary investigations to determine site development potential.

·   On-site consultations to determine development options.

·   Identification of wetlands (Determination).

·   Flagging of upland/wetland boundaries (Delineation).

·   Surveying of flagged wetland boundaries (GPS or Conventional).

·   Writing simple to comprehensive reports defining wetland regulatory jurisdiction.

·   Compiling permit application information and submittal to proper regulating authorities.

·   Wetland creation to compensate for wetland loss due to impacts (Mitigation).

·   Monitoring development of the mitigation areas.

·   Simple tree identification for individual homeowners and complete site inventories for land developers.

·   Creating Habitat Location Plans, as well as providing avoidances/minimization suggestions.

·   Natural features assessments.                   

Doug Longpre is the environmental professional at KEBS, Inc. He is a former army paratrooper and a graduate of Michigan State University where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Fisheries and Wildlife. Doug is certified with The Wildlife Society as an Associate Wildlife Biologist, and with the International Society of Arboriculture as an Arborist. He has also received advanced training through the Wetland Training Institute in: Plant Identification, Planning Hydrology for Constructed Wetlands, Wetland Construction and Restoration, and Wetland Delineations with an Emphasis on Soils and Hydrology. His work experience includes: 

  • Conducting wetland determinations and boundary delineations according to USACOE and MDEQ methodologies; GPS surveying delineated wetland boundaries; collecting and analyzing field data and preliminary site data; writing comprehensive reports defining wetland regulatory jurisdiction.
  • Identifying wetland losses due to impact, and preparing written wetland mitigation and monitoring plans to account for those losses; creating wetland mitigation planting plans; planting wetland mitigation areas; monitoring the development of wetland mitigation areas.
  • Conducting summer and winter tree inventories; creating inventory logs associating recorded information with associated tag numbers; coordinating with drafters and engineers in the creation of Tree Identification and Location Plan.
  • Coordinating with engineers and architects in the preparation of permit applications for submittal to Local and State agencies.
  • Data collection regarding wetlands, floodplains, flood hazard areas, ground water vulnerable areas, soils, and deep-water features as part of Natural Features Assessments.
  • Identification of wildlife habitat for Threatened or Endangered wildlife species, creation of Habitat Location Plans, as well as Habitat Impact Reports.
  • Providing wetland restoration and enhancement suggestions.

 

Projects:

  • Lake Forest Partners 2 @ SOS, Proposed Commercial Development, Ypsilanti Township, Washtenaw County, Michigan. Delineated wetlands throughout the 22-acre partially developed parcel; followed fieldwork with an in-depth report determining wetland jurisdiction. In addition to the delineation, conducted identification and GPS inventory of 650+ trees adhering to the requirements stated in the Ypsilanti Township Code of Ordinances.

  • Eyde Company @ Georgetown, Proposed Subdivision, Meridian Township, Ingham County, Michigan. Delineated wetlands throughout the 131-acre undeveloped parcel. Fieldwork followed by an in-depth report determining wetland jurisdiction and an application for Level 3 confirmation by the MDEQ. Also created Habitation Location Plan in accordance with MDNR requirements. Project in planning phase.
  • Sunrise Company @ Cameron Oaks, Proposed Subdivision, Meridian Township, Ingham County, Michigan. Delineated wetlands throughout the 46-acre partially developed parcel; followed fieldwork with an in-depth report determining wetland jurisdiction. In addition, the project required the creation and acceptance by both the State and Township of a wetland mitigation plan to account for proposed impacts. The Plan was created and later accepted by the MDEQ and Township. Currently working on identifying planting material providers for mitigation area. Project under way.
  • KEM-TEC & Associates and 1st State Bank, Proposed Commercial Development, Chesterfield Township, Macomb County, Michigan. Delineated wetlands throughout the 4-acre undeveloped parcel; followed fieldwork with an in-depth report determining wetland jurisdiction. In addition, conducted identification and inventory of 317 trees following the requirements stated in the Chesterfield Township Code of Ordinances. Project completed.
  • Eyde Company @ Hannah Farms, Proposed Subdivision, Meridian Township, Ingham County, Michigan. Delineated wetlands throughout the 80-acre undeveloped parcel. Fieldwork followed by application for Level 3 confirmation by the MDEQ. Project in pre-construction phase.
  • Strathmore Development @ Leslie Golf Course and Traver Creek, Proposed Site Improvements, Washtenaw County, Michigan. Conducted winter tree identification and GPS survey of 327 trees adhering to the requirements of the City’s Subdivision and Land Use Control Ordinance. Project status is unknown.
  • Stockwell Real Estate Group @ Autumn Park, Proposed Condominium Development, Meridian Township, Ingham County, Michigan. Conducted a Natural Features Assessment of the 5.5-acre parcel in accordance with the requirements stated in the Township’s Special Use Permit Application. Also conducted inventory and GPS survey of 139 trees adhering to the requirements stated by the Township. Project nearing completion.
  • E. T. MacKenzie Company, Site Development, Scio Township, Washtenaw County, Michigan. Conducted winter tree identification and GPS survey of 400+ trees adhering to the requirements of the Township Zoning Ordinance. Project in pre-construction phase.
  • Newman Equities @ Kohl’s Department Store, Commercial Development, Meridian Township, Ingham County, Michigan. Conducted a Natural Features Assessment in accordance with the requirements stated in the Township’s Special Use Permit Application. Also performed duties as Storm Water Operator throughout the development of the site. Project complete.
  • Preview Properties @ Deer Creek, Proposed Subdivision, Watertown Township, Clinton County, Michigan. Delineated wetlands throughout the 38-acre undeveloped parcel; followed fieldwork with an in-depth report determining wetland jurisdiction. Currently providing Mitigation Monitoring services.
  • KEM-TEC & Associates, Proposed Residential Development, Franklin Township, Oakland County, Michigan. Conducted identification and inventory of 181 trees following the requirements stated in the Village of Franklin Code of Ordinances. Project completed.
  • Timberland Development, Proposed Residential Development, Village of Nashville, Barry County, Michigan. Delineated wetlands throughout the 18-acre undeveloped parcel; followed fieldwork with an in-depth report determining wetland jurisdiction. Assisted other consulting firm in conducting threatened natural community assessment. Project in construction phase.
  • White Family Properties, Proposed Residential Development, Meridian Township, Ingham County, Michigan. Conducted identification and GPS survey of 900 trees during the initial planning of Phases 5, 7, and 8. The inventory was conducted following the requirements of both the Township and the client.
